5 POWERFUL WAYS TO OPTIMISE YOUR LINKEDIN BANNER

Your LinkedIn banner—the background image at the top of your profile—is a fabulous place to reinforce your values, skills or brand. By optimising the written and visual aspects of your LinkedIn profile, you can create a cohesive personal brand, boost visibility, and attract new connections or work opportunities.

With this in mind, let's look at five wonderful ways to use your LinkedIn banner image to create a positive first impression.

  1. Action lifestyle photo

People connect with people who share their values and interests. That’s why your banner image is a great place to showcase something from your personal life that your ideal clients, customers or employers will connect with. This could be a photo of you engaging in your favourite hobby. Or, if you prefer to keep things professional, you might opt for a photo of you in action at work. Whatever image you choose, make sure it's high quality.

2. Showcase your products or services

Using a professional product shot or examples of your best work is a great way to showcase your brand. If you run a product-based business, you might use a shot of new or hero products. If you’re a graphic designer, photographer or other creative, give people a taste of your work by featuring your favourite projects. I have a series of client portraits on my banner to show people my photography style.

3. Promote your Blog, Podcast, or Event

If you're a business owner, your banner image is the perfect place to promote your blog, podcast, or something special happening in your business. Tell visitors what you offer, with a clear, compelling call to action to take the next step to learn more.

4. INSPIRATION OR QUOTE

Create a mood board of images or quotes you love or that inspire your work to illustrate your ethos. Canva has some gorgeous templates to get you started with ease, or you can curate images from Pinterest. To keep your brand consistent, be sure to align your colour palette with your logo or profile photo.

5. LOGO & CONTACT INFORMATION

Make it easy for people to connect with you by creating a banner with your logo and contact details. Use your brand colours (or a favourite colour if you're an employee). By adding your brand positioning statement or promise, you can also show people what to expect from you from the get-go.
